Introducing Food For Thought with Whitney Ahneman!
I am thrilled to introduce a brand new series for you, my incredible readers: Food For Thought with Whitney Ahneman. Whitney and I have been working together for over three years. She has been reading this blog since day one — often sneaking a peek of my posts when they are just raw thoughts in my journal. On a more personal level, Whitney has helped me realize the important link between nutrition and general wellbeing. She just completed her master’s degree at Boston University and is currently in her Dietetic Internship at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston. She writes about everything nutrition on her blog, Witty Nutrition.

Food For Thought will be focused on providing a much more holistic perspective of nutrition, with lots of fun tips and inspiration. If you are anything like I was before meeting Whitney and cringe when you hear the word “nutrition,” prepare to fall in love with Whitney’s unique approach to the topic – I certainly have!
The series will be posted twice a month. To introduce Food for Thought, Whitney has recorded a short video for you. Please note that the volume is a bit low on the video so make sure your speakers are turned all the way up and your ears are wide open :)!

Welcome Whitney! I have a question, is it really that important to eat breakfast? I love breakfast in theory, but I just don’t have the time to eat it during the week. Any tips?
Thanks!
Thanks Lola! That’s actually a perfect question because the first column will be all about breakfast.. Stay tuned!

Oh what perfect timing. This is what I am going through now. I am looking to find more nutritious recipes online and can’t seem to find one. I don’t need to be on a diet. My weight is just right for my frame and my BMI is within normal. I just want to be more conscious of what I am eating since I can’t seem to lose my belly fat. I exercise on a weekly basis and decided it is the calories that I am consuming.

Hi Anna! That is a topic that comes up a lot so I will be sure to address it! Thanks for the feedback and please keep questions and topic suggestions coming. All the best!

This is very timely for me, also. I want to take advantage of the plentiful, fresh produce that’s available in the summertime to overhaul my relationship with food (which has been pretty bad for a number of years). This seems like another great resource – thanks! :)
Hi Pamela! I’m excited about all the possibilities as well. Fresh produce is so wonderfully ripe and flavorful this time of year so enjoy!

Hello Ashley, I look forward to hearing more from you about nutrition, specifically the mind-body connection. I’d like to know more about different types of foods and what they do (e.g. blueberries reduce inflammation, fruits are a natural brain re-energizer).
thanks!
Hi Duff! Those are some great relationships for me to touch on… I think it’s amazing how food affects our bodies, minds, and total health. Thanks for the input. And no worries on the name mix-up!

Oh what a wonderful message – so happy that you stumbled!!
Will there be recipes for cooking for 1 or 2 people? I hate cooking just for me so usually don’t eat as well as I should. Some easy fast recipes would be great

Well there certainly can be! That’s a great suggestion, thanks Sheila!

Yes! And we’ll have to do some really cute recipe card downloads :). This is gonna be too much fun!
Wonderful! So excited to ‘meet’ you, Whitney, and I look forward to much-needed food insight. I second SheliaC’s suggestion – it can be discouraging/daunting to cook in general, and ironically especially for one person! I’d love to hear about energizing snacks/meals as I work 8-4 then study for a grad school entrance exam at night. It’s too easy to reach for Diet Coke and chocolate chips for a short boost… Thanks so much for coming on board!

Do you have a hidden camera in my apartment, Leslie!!? I am in such need of an energy boost and just got a coke zero. But it’s not horrible. I used to be addicted to coffee, and Whit helped me with that little addiction. Now, I don’t drink ANY coffee so the occasional coke zero is okay :).
