What are you craving?

This week has been full of ups and downs. Typically, when I notice that my emotions and energy are fluctuating, something is lurking below the surface. I journal a lot and recognized a common thread: cravings (sadly, not pints of ice cream or cupcakes)… deeper cravings with a few playful ones as well! Below is a list of recent cravings straight from my journal (with links added for your inspiration as well as a few additional comments)!

… quiet

… relaxation

… visual inspiration

… biographies

… interior design/nesting (daily obsessions: decor8 and making it lovely)

… journaling

… connection

… ease + simplicity (counting down the moments until Aby’s new online workshop, It’s About Time: How to Have More Fun and Get More Done – I talked to Aby throughout the creation of this workshop and know that it is going to exceed all expectations. No affiliate connection, just an exciting opportunity to share)

… yoga

… family

… acceptance

… decisiveness

… quotes

… photographs (addicted to a creative mint)

… giving + receiving

… chocolate chip + banana pancakes

… dance lessons with soon to be hubby

… marriage (T minus 3.5 months!)

… personal growth (my guru extraordinaire: Jennifer Lee)

discovery sessions (i.e., magical transformation)

… sharing my imperfect journey (the little stuff as well as the bigger lessons)

… learning your stories, your little and big life moments

… lowered expectations

doing without doing

… focus and inner quiet

… soft music

… creating in the moment

… handmade indulgences (etsy + papernstitch)

… transparency

… forgiveness

… receiving support without asking (in an ideal world, but crave support and may need to get better at the “asking” component)

… structure

… innovation

… new beginnings

… reconnecting with my online + offline friends, cheerleaders, and supporters

… celebrating ordinary sparkling moments and cherishing the friendship of my personal sparkling genie, Christine Mason Miller

I want to throw this question back to you and would love to know: what are you craving? Share your cravings, big and small (deep and/or playful) in the comments.

-> I recently wrote my first official guest post for one of my favorite blogs, Live Bold and Bloom. I loved the experience and hope you’ll hop on over to read my piece entitled, How to Embrace Uncertainty and Cultivate Inner Peace.

-> New videos + lots of great giveaways on Spring. July’s hot topic for discussion: self-care. Episode one went live on Tuesday! This month’s video series is our best yet. In the final episode on the topic (available the last week of July), I share a very personal story for the first time that I hope offers inspiration for others.

I am currently craving distance. Away from my house, my husband, my town. I know that sounds terribly selfish, but it is what I need right now. So, to that end, I’ll be packing up the kids and we’re heading to the ocean for a week of salty breezes. lots of lobster and quiet time away. Love your list, Carolyn. I crave many of the same things :)

That really is a great list! Something I’m craving right now is time to deep-focus on some of the things I want to get done. Also, time to read as well as process rather than just read bits here and there. Face-to-face time (even if it’s just on Skype) and heart-to-heart connections with some of the people in my life. Time to cook a more elaborate meal and try some new recipes. Time to just be.
I hopped over to Live Bold and Bloom too, loved your post there as well Carolyn!

I love the list. I am craving PEACE!!!!!! Spent my 4th of July recovering from an ER visit which tested me for both a stroke and heartattack at the ripe old age of 25! Thankfully it was neither but have now discovered spots on my brain that should not be there. So I need PEACE know that everything is happening for a reason and I will be able to handle what is thrown my way.

I am so sorry that you are experiencing such a difficult time, Kiersten. I crave peace for you as well and the ability to persevere.

Thank you for craving peace for me as well, Carolyn. I want to say Thank you! I know you struggle with being open and honest on this blog. I appreciate all your words of wisdom. With my life in chaos your blog gives me time to stop and slow down. So thank you for all you do.

  5. Lee says:

Great list Carolyn, right now I am craving creativity. I feel creative but I need to think outside the box right now in order to differentiate my talents from others :)

Craving – I call it spiritual hunger. Cravings and spiritual hungers are at the heart of what undermines our efforts to be happy and keeps us stuck in habitual thought/behavior. Telling our truth about our cravings, naming them, sets us free. Thanks for naming your cravings, Carolyn, and encouraging us to tell our truth about ours!

Have you read Geneen Roth’s book, Women, Food and God? I highly recommend it. Roth makes the connection between how we eat and our spiritual cravings.

    Carolyn,

I am craving peace of mind, and strength to perservere for the next three weeks at work, creativity to create new possibilities for myself that expand me and make me feel alive and to rekindle my love for running.

  11. What a lovely list, and a lot of cravings dear!

Hmmm my cravings: fulfuillment in my day job, making enough moolah with my side craft business to quit my day job lol, more yoga, baking, family time, TRAVELING! Oh and the list could go on and on:-)

  12. Hi Carolyn,

I’m just getting caught up on some reading, and came across this is a beautiful blog. It’s very peaceful and contemplative. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself.

Recently I am craving time to write. There is so much that I want to accomplish, so many things that I believe to be my ‘next step’ in life, but I hardly have time to get to them. Will keep working on that. Time … and Goodberry’s chocolate custard with Reese’s Pieces. If only I had enough of each …
